Youth Partners of the World AIDS Campaign

All activities within the youth programme of the World AIDS Campaign are done in partnership with youth led or youth serving organisations at national, regional and international level. On this page we feature some of our partner organisations, which we have worked or are are currently working with (in no particular order). The International Federation of Medical Students' Associations is an independent, non-governmental and non-political federation of medical students' associations throughout the world. IFMSA has 102 National Member Organizations from 100 countries and represented more than 1 million medical students worldwide. It is officially recognized as a NGO within the UN and recognized by the WHO as the International Forum for medical students. It exists to serve medical students all over the world. IFMSA was established in the Netherlands as a charity organization.

The Foundation’s mission is to encourage, energise and empower young people who are involved in HIV/AIDS awareness, education and prevention campaigns. Twice a year the Foundation presents Staying Alive Grants to young people who have set up youth-led organisations that are focused on preventing HIV and demonstrate the potential to become future leaders. The grants , of a maxium of US$12,000 a year, are used to support relevant work by these organisations

CHOICE, for youth and sexuality is a Dutch youth-led organisation, which consists entirely of youth under the age of 29. CHOICE aims at improving Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) of young people worldwide through meaningful youth participation. CHOICE approaches Sexual and Reproductive Health from a human rights perspective. In their view these rights need to be recognised and implemented in order to guarantee sexual and reproductive health. CHOICE considers it indispensible that the voices of young people about their needs are heard and integrated in policy debates on SRHR. CHOICE has the experience and expertise that young people, when being able to make informed choices, have the capacity to bringing about the necessary positive changes in their lives.

Dance4Life is “re-branding” the way the AIDS pandemic is addressed and builds an active youth movement for social change. Inspire, educate, activate, celebrate. Reaching almost 500,000 in-school youth (13-19 years old) in 19 countries worldwide since 2004, Dance4Life is a unique international organization that initiates and coordinates a global movement for youth to take action and push back HIV in close collaboration with young people, governments, companies and NGOs.

Espolea is a youth-led Mexico based NGO founded in 2005 in Mexico City that works with other young people defending human rights, sexual and reproductive rights, gender equality and fighting HIV/AIDS, stigma and discrimination. It does all of these through conferences, workshops, training and campaigns that allow other young people access to youth-friendly information for debating and proposing changes in local, national and international policy.

Girls Empowerment Network is a youth organization that promotes and advocates for social and emotional well being of vulnerable and marginalized adolescent girls and young women and to influence positive change in the areas of HIV/AIDS, gender, human rights, and women empowerment. We work at grassroot level and form clubs of girls with the aim of providing a platform through which girls can reach one another and share real life experiences and information.

MSAKE is an association of Medical Students and Medical Students in Kenya. MSAKE is the conduit between future physicians in Kenya to the external world, increasing collaborations between medical students within and without the country. MSAKE also plays a key role in Health Advocacy to ensure the Kenyan people get what they deserve in Healthcare. MSAKE in this role is nationally known though its association members like MSAMU and AMSUN to conduct community care days locally called Health Camps.

It is our mandate too to ensure future physicians not only treat people but advocate for better health care for the people of Kenya.

Y-PEER is a groundbreaking and comprehensive youth-to-youth initiative pioneered by UNFPA. Y-PEER is a network of more than 500 non-profit organizations and governmental institutions; its membership includes thousands of young people who work in the many areas surrounding adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights. The network is currently active in more than 40 countries in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Asia & The Pacific, Latin America, Arab States and East Africa.

YOUTH RISE is the only international youth-driven network of young people from around the world to reduce the risks and harms associated with substance use. Youth R.I.S.E. aims to increase the engagement and social inclusion of young people in the policies and decisions that affect their lives, thereby both increasing the effectiveness of programmes and services, and the health outcomes of the children and youth involved. Youth R.I.S.E. advocates for effective harm reduction programmes and policies for young people, as well as increasing opportunities for young people to participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of the policies that affect their lives. In addition, the organisation provides a culturally diverse experience, allowing for cross-cultural partnerships, peer-to-peer training opportunities and youth empowerment initiatives.

Waray-Waray Youth Advocates or WARAYA is the youth arm of Family Planning Organization of the Philippines – Samar Chapter (FPOP-Samar), an affiliate member of the International Parenthood Planned Federation (IPPF). WARAYA was established on July 04 2004 by a group of young leaders, which envisions a society that understands, respects and nurtures the rights of young people to sexual and reproductive health. WARAYA paced their actions through orientations and workshops to raise the youth’s level of awareness and through trainings aimed in creating a youth that is informed, empowered and responsible for their sexual and reproductive life.
