¿Por qué es importante el liderazgo de?
Las redes de personas que viven con VIH/SIDA (PVVS) han estado aprovechando el liderazgo de las PVVS por más de 20 años.
Durante ese tiempo, las redes globales han organizado 11 conferencias internacionales de PVVS. Las mujeres que viven con el VIH han hecho visibles las necesidades y los desafíos de niñas y niños, madres y abuelas que viven con el VIH y son afectadas/os por la epidemia.
Las redes de PVVS fueron líderes en el establecimiento del Fondo Mundial de Lucha contra el SIDA, la Tuberculosis y la Malaria y han asegurado que la participación de las PVVS esté anclada en los mecanismos del Fondo Mundial tanto a nivel global como nacional.
Las PVVS y quienes les apoyan han liderado esfuerzos de incidencia ante gobiernos en todo el mundo a favor de un acceso más rápido y mayor al tratamiento esencial. Y en muchos lugares han tenido éxito.
No obstante, las PVVS aún luchan por tener control sobre sus propias vidas. Los líderes políticos internacionales han sido - en el mejor de los casos - inconsistentes en reconocer la importancia del liderazgo y la participación de las PVVS. A escala global, las iniciativas de salud pública raras veces son diseñadas junto con las PVVS o teniendo en cuenta sus intereses. Por el contrario, las recientes políticas en torno a las pruebas, la prevención, la lactancia materna y el acceso a abortos seguros no son sino meras estrategias para contener el virus que en última instancia resultarán ineficaces sin la participación de las PVVS.
Es esencial que los líderes mundiales reconozcan plenamente el valor de involucrar a las personas que viven con VIH/SIDA. Sin el liderazgo de las PVVS, el acceso universal a prevención, tratamiento y atención seguirá siendo un sueño. Sin su liderazgo, el estigma y la discriminación que sobre ellas se ciernen continuarán, al igual que las violaciones a los derechos humanos de quienes viven con el VIH. Y sin un ambiente abierto a todas las personas que viven con el VIH, la adopción de medidas relacionadas con las pruebas y la prevención quedará rezagada y la epidemia no será frenada.
Universal Access Asia: Voices and Perceptions of Communities Affected by HIV and AIDS
In collaboration with partners across the Asia region and support from UNAIDS, Health & Development Networks has produced the report, ‘Universal access in Asia: Voices and perceptions of communities affected by HIV and AIDS’.
The call for Universal Access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support for affected people arose from a series of high–level meetings in 2005, and is now a central part of HIV initiatives across all regions.
Universal Access in Asia faces a number of challenges, and this document records the views, perceptions and perspectives of community writers and contributors from across the region. Their stories provide vital insight into the reach of universal access, recording some of the key issues they consider are impacting on their communities.
Advancing the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Human Rights of People living with HIV
People living with HIV and their advocates launched a groundbreaking guidance package. Policy makers, programme managers, health professionals, donors and advocates now have an important tool to better support the sexual and reproductive health and rights of people living with HIV.
