2 weeks have gone by and the International AIDS Conference is over - but the work is by no means over. The World AIDS Campaign supported youth partners over the 2 week period, providing an opportunity for young people living with HIV to develop their media skills, to distributing information on criminalisation together with IPPF, Harm reduction together with Youth Rise and Universal Access together with GYCA, YC and UNFPA.

In reflection it was a successful conference, however there are some lessons to be learned and one key valuable lesson I learnt. Whilst we have the tendancy to say - "young people will become the leaders of the future", I was wrong. They are the leaders of today - just look at their commitment and dedication during the conference. Youth panelists, pre-conference success and the youth pavilion in the global village. They took the lead and I for one am going to follow their example.

In preperation for the World AIDS Day, the World AIDS Campaign in partnership with UNFPA, the Youth Coalition and the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS are launching a fact sheet on youth and universal access. This is in response to providing better information on universal access and what this means to young people. The fact sheet is accessible in 7 languages and will be distributed at the International AIDS Conference in Mexico and World AIDS Day.

In partnership with UNFPA and UNAIDS, the World AIDS Campaign, collaboratively with its constituency partners will be developing over the next 6 months, campaigning and mobilisation kits to aid their campaigning efforts.

Based on our learning and outcomes of our national campaigning meetings, the kit aims to provide a background on AIDS commitments, and accountability on these commitments. In addition the kit will feature case studies, campaigning and mobilisation good practices and links to constituency based resource documents, manuals, reports and other studies on the accountability of decision makers. A range of fact sheets is also being produced.

If you would like to contribute to this process or have resources or information that is relevant please contact me at. Any information would be a valuable contribution.

On the 5th and 6th June 2008, Youth Campaigns Coordinator Claudia Ahumada will be attending the ITUC (International Trade Union Confederation) Youth Committee meeting in Kiev.
Together with the Youth Secretariat of the ITUC, the WAC will be sharing the importance of labour involvement in HIV campaigning, a better understanding of what Universal Access means for labour and ways in which labour can more effectively link with youth organisations at a national level. One of the projects together with the ITUC will be to develop an action booklet for Youth and Labour to help them campaign together around days of solidarity and World AIDS Day.

We'll post outcomes from the meeting on this blog shortly afterwards.
